Core Labour Requirements Policy

International Panel and Lumber (IPL) is committed to conducting its business ethically and responsibly by protecting the rights and well-being of all workers.

IPL will implement any requirements of New Zealand employment and workplace legislation. IPL expects all employees, contractors and suppliers to comply with these requirements.

IPL will ensure:

  • Workers under the age of 16 cannot work before 6am or after 10pm
  • School-aged workers are not employed during school hours to ensure school attendance is not prevented or interfered.
  • People under the age of 18 cannot work in a hazardous work environment except for the purpose of training, and under supervision and guidance.

Employment relationships between IPL and all employees are voluntary and based on mutual consent, without any penalties or threats.

IPL does not conduct any of the following practices that could point to forced or compulsory labour:

  • Physical and sexual violence
  • Bonded labour
  • Withholding of wages / including payment of employment fees and/or payment of deposit to commence employment
  • Restriction of movement/mobility
  • Retention of passport and identity documents
  • Threats of denunciation to the authorities

IPL does not discriminate in employment or occupation.  Employment decisions, including recruitment, promotion, training, remuneration and termination, will be based on merit, qualifications, experience and business requirements.

IPL respects freedom of association, and the effective right to collective bargaining is met as follows:

  • Workers are allowed and able to establish or join worker organisations of their own choosing to draw up their constitutions and rules
  • Workers are not punished or discriminated for engaging in lawful activities in a worker’s organisation
  • IPL will negotiate with lawfully established workers’ organisations and/or duly selected representatives in good faith and with its best efforts to reach a collective bargaining agreement and implement the agreement as agreed upon.
